Pringle Clothes. Robert Pringle set up his first factory under the name Waldie, Pringle, Wilson and Co. at the Whiskey House Mill in Hawick, Scotland as long ago as 1815. In 2002 Pringle was returned to private ownership and the brand was repositioned, with catwalk shows for the London and Milan Fashion Weeks. Flagship Pringle stores have been opened in Bond Street, Sloane Square and Tokyo.

During the 1920's and 1930's the name Pringle became synonymous with cashmere twinsets, cardigans and sweaters. Otto Weisz, the great Viennese designer, brought the company to high-fashion status, attracting Royal and Hollywood clients. (The late Queen Mother was a regular customer.) He is credited with establishing cashmere as a fashion staple.

One of Pringle's most popular patterns is the Argyle multi-coloured diamond pattern, an approximation of the tartan of the Scottish clan Argyle. The company is also known for traditional Intarsia sweaters, hand-inland with flower motifs and patterns.

The present designer at Pringle is Stuart Stockdale. He was born in 1970, and studied fashion design at Central St. Martins Fashion College, and the Royal College of Art in London. Stockdale worked for Romeo Gigli, Jasper Conran and J. Crew before being hired to restore the luxury and innovation that Pringle was known for in the 1970's.

Among celebrities who wear Pringle Argyle patterned sweaters is David Beckham.

The Pringle Clothing Collection includes Shirts, T-Shirts, Sweaters, Jumpers for Men and Scarves, Cardigans and Tops for Women.
